Tekken Becomes the New Crossover in Brawlhalla

Brawlhalla, the outstanding fighting game developed by the U.S. studio Blue Mammoth Games, hasn’t stopped growing over the years. After two years in early access, the title was officially launched in 2017 on PS4 and PC. The following year, it was released on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, and finally arrived on Android and iOS in 2020. During all this time, its community has kept expanding. By 2020, it reached the milestone of 50 million players, and an event was held to celebrate it. This year, the number of registered players has doubled.

Much of this success is due to its refined mechanics, which take inspiration from the classic Nintendo fighting series, Super Smash Bros., while introducing enough differences to forge a unique formula. Here, each character can wield two different types of weapons, providing a greater degree of versatility. Another contributing factor to its success is likely its collaborations with other franchises, including those from video games, movies, or series, which help attract new fans. Such is the case with Tekken, the latest collaboration, which adds three original characters from Bandai Namco’s saga to the roster of protagonists.

This crossover not only brings Devil Jin, Nina Williams, and Yoshimitsu into the game but also adds a new emote featuring a Tekken arcade machine, along with two new stages—one for the Volleybrawl mode and another for 1vs1 fights—as well as avatars and emojis.

With this latest addition, there are now eight video game franchises featured in Brawlhalla, including Rivals of Aether, Shovel Knight, Rayman, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter, Assassin’s Creed, Castlevania, Halo, and now Tekken. Together, they add a substantial number of new participants to the already extensive list of selectable characters.
