Konami Announces a New Castlevania Game and More Surprises

Twelve years have passed since Konami last released a new entry in one of its most iconic franchises—twelve long years that, fortunately, are finally coming to an end. It’s almost hard to believe that the last Castlevania game launched during the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era, and that we haven’t seen a new installment since then. While Konami has released several collections and compilations over the years, nothing truly new had emerged. What’s even more surprising is that this major announcement arrived during a State of Play; few fans of the vampire‑hunting clan expected such news at this event, especially without any prior teaser.

Castlevania: Belmont‘s Curse

The Castlevania saga is officially back, and its next installment is being developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin—the same studios behind the acclaimed Dead Cells, which even received a DLC dedicated to Konami’s franchise. The trailer makes it clear that this will be a faithful side‑scrolling action‑platformer in the spirit of the original games. It remains to be seen whether it will incorporate roguelike elements like Dead Cells.

Visually, the game looks excellent, with polished animations that fit perfectly with the series’ aesthetic. The character models could use a bit more refinement, but they are likely early versions that will be more polished in the final release. Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and Steam sometime in 2026, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the original game. According to Konami, more titles from the franchise are already in development.

Konami’s other announcements

Konami was undeniably the star of the event, awakening from a long slumber to revive some of its most important licenses. Alongside Castlevania, the presentation also featured a new Silent Hill title and a fresh Metal Gear compilation.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 2

The world’s premier tactical espionage saga returns with a new compilation that not only brings Snake back to the battlefield but also fulfills a long‑standing promise: rescuing the legendary Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots from limbo. Snake’s final mission was originally released exclusively on PS3, and after the console’s discontinuation—and the shutdown of its online store—the game was effectively trapped on Sony’s old hardware. Until now.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 includes the PS3 classic as well as an HD version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker from PSP. The collection will launch on PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2 and the original Switch, and PC via Steam on August 27.

Silent Hill: Townfall

Following the successful remake of Silent Hill 2 and the well‑received Silent Hill f, Konami is once again investing in survival horror with a new entry: Silent Hill: Townfall. The trailer introduces a new protagonist, Simon, and a never‑before‑seen location, St. Amelia. With top‑tier visuals and a deeply unsettling atmosphere, the game promises to plunge players once again into the darkest corners of psychological horror. Its release is planned for sometime in 2026 on PS5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
