Concord Will Shut Down its Servers Just Two Weeks After its Launch

Weeks ago I wrote an article about how poorly Concord performed during its closed beta, during which it barely surpassed 2,000 concurrent players on Steam. With such low numbers, its imminent launch was shaping up to be a failure, and that’s exactly what happened. The hero shooter developed by Firewalk Studios was released on October 23 and after a very poor start, the closure of all its servers was announced just days after its debut. This Tuesday, both the developer and Sony announced the game’s final closure on September 6, meaning that the game was only available for two weeks, making it one of the fastest-removed games in history. Naturally, those who purchased the title will receive a refund, and the official statement on the PlayStation website explains how to proceed on each platform.

What is the fastest-retired video game in history?

While Concord’s failure was massive, it wasn’t the fastest. The record for the fastest-retired game in history still belongs to The Day Before. The controversial game, developed by Fntastic, was released in early access on December 7, 2023, and was pulled from the market just four days later. The studio itself shut down that same month, claiming that the title’s financial failure made it impossible to cover the operational costs to keep it alive, and it was disconnected from the servers on January 22. This means that while The Day Before was removed from the market faster than any other title, it was online longer than Concord, making Concord the fastest game to be disconnected in history.

Players Commit Mass Suicides to Obtain Platinum Trophy in Concord

Following the announcement of the game’s imminent closure, trophy hunters launched a race against time to earn the game’s trophies before it disappears forever and its achievements become impossible to unlock. To obtain the platinum trophy, one of the most demanding requirements is to reach level 100. Searching for the most effective way to level up, players discovered that if they jump off the map during a match in confrontation mode, the round ends as quickly as possible, earning them some experience. Essentially, during the game’s final hours, all matches have turned into mass suicides to farm experience as quickly as possible, with the hope of achieving the coveted platinum trophy before the game’s definitive shutdown.
