This was officially reported through a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ea.com\/press-releases\/press-releases-details\/2025\/EA-Announces-Agreement-to-be-Acquired-by-PIF-Silver-Lake-and-Affinity-Partners-for-55-Billion\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a> detailing some specifics of the agreement, such as the amount of the operation, which exceeds <strong>55 billion dollars<\/strong>, of which <strong>36 billion constitute an equity investment and the remaining 20 billion debt financing<\/strong>. The transaction has already been approved by EA\u2019s Board of Directors and <strong>is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027<\/strong>. It is, as usual, subject to shareholder approval and required regulations. Once completed, <strong>EA<\/strong> will become completely private and will no longer be listed on any public market.<\/p><h2 class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">PIF in the video game industry<\/h2><p class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">The news of the purchase may have taken most of the public by surprise, but the reality is that the <strong>Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia was already one of EA\u2019s majority shareholders with 9.9% of its shares.<\/strong> Moreover, this is not its only investment in this market, as the PIF holds shares in several of the most thriving companies in the industry:<\/p><h3 class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">Activision Blizzard, Take-Two, and Electronic Arts<\/h3><p class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">In <strong>February 2021<\/strong>, the fund invested <strong>3.3 billion dollars<\/strong> in purchasing shares in three of the most powerful companies in the sector. In an article published by the outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/1810896\/business-economy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arab News<\/a>, the following investments are detailed:<\/p><ul><li class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">The PIF acquired 15 million shares of <strong>Activision Blizzard<\/strong>, representing <strong>3.5% of the company\u2019s total shares, for a value of 1.39 billion<\/strong>.<\/li><li class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">They also acquired 3.97 million shares of <strong>Take-Two<\/strong>, representing <strong>3.5% of the total, for a value of 825.5 million dollars<\/strong>.<\/li><li class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">Simultaneously, they bought 7.42 million shares of <strong>Electronic Arts<\/strong>, <strong>2.6% of the total at that time, for one billion<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><h3>Capcom and Nexon<\/h3><p>In <strong>February 2022<\/strong>, the fund acquired <strong>5% of Capcom\u2019s shares and a little over 5% of Nexon\u2019s shares<\/strong> after a <strong>combined investment of more than 1 billion dollars<\/strong>. Of this amount, <strong>332 million<\/strong> were allocated<strong> to the purchase of Capcom shares<\/strong> and <strong>883 million to the Korean publisher<\/strong>. According to the outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeastmonitor.com\/20220206-saudi-acquires-5-stake-in-capcom-and-nexon-gaming-firms-worth-1bn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Middle East Monitor<\/a>, this purchase would be a \u201cpure investment,\u201d and a possible acquisition of any of the companies is not anticipated.<\/p><h3 class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">Nintendo<\/h3><p class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">In<strong> May 2022<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kotaku.com\/nintendo-saudi-arabia-public-investment-fund-pif-shares-1848941294\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kotaku<\/a> reported a new investment by the fund in the video game industry\u2014in this case, the acquisition of <strong>5% of all Nintendo shares<\/strong>. This purchase was gradual and is estimated to have a cumulative cost of about 378.764 billion yen, that is, <strong>more than 2.7 billion euros (according to the exchange rate at that time)<\/strong>. Subsequently, <strong>they increased their stake to become one of the group\u2019s largest shareholders, accumulating just over 8% of the total shares<\/strong>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/forbes.es\/economia\/511302\/el-fondo-arabe-pif-dispuesto-a-aumentar-su-participacion-en-nintendo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forbes<\/a>.<\/p><h3 class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">SNK<\/h3><p class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">Also in <strong>May 2022<\/strong>, the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (Misk), founded by the Saudi Crown Prince himself, officially <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/misk.org.sa\/en\/the-mohammed-bin-salman-foundation-misk-announces-completion-of-strategic-investment-in-japanese-gaming-company-snk-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> the acquisition of 96% of SNK through its subsidiary Electronic Games Development Company<\/strong>. The EGDC receives investments from the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia; therefore, the purchase of this legendary Japanese studio adds to the fund\u2019s list of properties.<\/p><h3 class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">Embracer Group<\/h3><p class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/saudi-arabias-public-investment-fund-acquires-stake-in-embracer-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>June 2022<\/strong><\/a>, the <strong>PIF made an investment of 840 million pounds<\/strong> sterling (about 975 million euros at the June 2022 exchange rate) through the subsidiary Savvy Gaming Group <strong>to acquire 8% of the shares and 5.4% of the votes within the Swedish fund<\/strong>.<\/p><h3 class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">Koei Tecmo<\/h3><p class=\"text-md font-regular leading-[24px] pb-xxs pt-[9px]\">In <strong>January 2024<\/strong>, the outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/2438576\/business-economy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arab News<\/a> reported that<strong> the Saudi Public Fund increased its stake in Koei Tecmo from 5.5% to
